Welcome to EcoFleet

FleetSmart understands that in evaluating a fleet's performance,  it is important to consider more than just economic measures. As a result, FleetSmart have developed EcoFleet, a free service provided to FleetSmart customers. EcoFleet provides clients with a flexible and simple to understand rating system that allows them to measure the ecological impact of their fleet and understand the environmental performance of different vehicles when making purchase decisions.

How EcoFleet Ratings work:
EcoFleet Ratings consider three areas of environmental concern. These are Fuel Consumption, CO2 Emissions and Air Pollution. Each factor is equally weighted to give an overall rating out of 10.

CO2 Emissions:
. Many scientists believe that CO2 emissions are a main contributor to global warming. When fossil fuels are burned, large quantities of CO2 are released and while plants, oceans and minerals absorb some of this, it has been estimated that 7% of carbon released today will still be in our atmosphere in 100,000 years.
. CO2 reporting can be provided when FleetSmart manages a client's fuel, this shows the total CO2 tonnes produced in a given period, with reporting available by individual vehicle, cost centre or entire fleet.

Fuel Consumption:
Fuel consumption has an immediate impact on your bottom line. The best way to counteract higher fuel prices is to use less fuel. As CO2 emissions are directly linked to the type and amount of fuel that your vehicle uses, selecting a vehicle with better fuel economy not only reduces your fuel costs but also helps reduce your CO2 emissions.

Air Pollution:
Air Pollution takes into consideration nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons. NIWA has estimated that air pollution causes a similar number of deaths in NZ as the national road toll (404 in 2005). An informed Fleet Manager should be aware of the effect that their vehicles have on our environment.

TCO (Total Cost of Ownership):
When providing a comparison between vehicle costs, FleetSmart also include the EcoFleet rating for each vehicle. This allows clients to make informed purchasing decisions based upon economical and ecological data.

EcoFleet Reporting:
· The initial EcoFleet report provided to a client provides an in-depth analysis of their fleet, as well as information about the environmental factors considered.
· The update report, provided annually or upon request, is designed to simply and clearly show any improvements upon the previous year's EcoFleet Reporting.
· Customised reports, these are available upon request and may incur a cost, dependant on complexity.

Sample Vehicle:
Toyota Corolla, 1.8L Manual 6 speed, Sedan (2007 model)
Fuel Consumption Rating:  7 (From GVG 7.3 litres per 100km)
CO2 Rating:                            7 (From GVG 174 grams of CO2 per kilometre)
Air Pollution Rating:              9 (From GVG rating of 8.5)
Overall Rating:                       8
